I am a Master Bird Bander. I have been banding birds since the early 1990’s and have been a Master Bander since the mid 1990’s. I band primarily passerine and near-passerine birds. My banding is almost exclusive in California, although I have banded maybe five hundred birds in Costa Rica.
At present, I am the bander of record at three main banding stations. The oldest is Zuma Canyon in Los Angeles County, which has been operating for almost 30 year. The Burns Reserve station in San Bernardino County has been operating for almost 25 years. The newest station is Bear Divide in the Angeles National Forest, which just completed its second year of operation.
My research interests include fire ecology, site fidelity, dawn migration, to name a few. Otherwise, my major interest is in teaching the craft of bird banding. As noted elsewhere on this site, opportunities to learn the craft are limited but are possible. Most of the teaching is done at Zuma Canyon.
